Mosin Sniper with straight bolt?
On a sister site there is a guy selling an 'Numbers matching sniper' with a straight bolt handle. I inquired about the difficulty of working a straight bolt on a Sniper with a scope...got a 'Salty reply' that I need to do research.
Am I missing something here?
Thanks
Bernie

Unless he knows something we don't know, I wouldn't let it bother me! There is his kind on every board.

many mosin snipers were converted back to standard service rifles after accuracy wore off due to corrosive ammo or other factors. So, it is possible to have a mosin "sniper" with a straight bolt. In fact, they are (were) very prevalent and rather easy to find. In a lot of 50 pretty bad looking mosin's that cabela's had 4 years or so ago, I found no less than 10. Open the bolt...easy to spot screw/pin holes from the mount that were filled during refurbishment. Many people bought these and converted back to sniper by adding a mount and scope. If it is one of these, maybe this seller or whoever he bought it from just didn't bother doing the bolt handle when this was done.

As said above, the Soviets converted many sniper rifles back into regular infantry rifles after WW2. These rifles are referred to as "Ex-Snipers". They will have all the usual sniper grade manufacturer markings and have plugged mount holes visible on the receiver or barrel (depending on sniper model) but will otherwise be identical to regular M91/30 infantry rifles. If the rifle in question has a scope and mount and also a straight bolt than something is fishy with it. How about a link to the sale or some pictures?

I've never seen the need that people have to get all out of shape when a person asks a legit question all they had to say what was said here in posts # 3 & 4 and its all apples.
But some take it that the question incites a questionable validity of the item and their integrity as a seller so they get their backside under their armpit and leave the sand pit maybe they don't know anything themselves and the rebuke was a cover up.
Anyway you have your answer here from those that have the knowledge and given in a polite and respectful manner as is always the case on this site, just pass on that person its obvious they are inadequate behind their fly!
