There’s another one behind him. The guards and the onlookers look strange. I’d wager they are French
. The boots, the rifles, the canteen… But the civilians look also quite Italian

looks a bit worse for wear, like he got tuned up before the parade.

So 2 prisoners perhaps they were going to hand them into the US forces seems one guard is clearing the way 50/50 if they made it even early '45 the German
forces were really in a bind I'm sure the crowd would have liked to get their hands on them both seeing as ol' mate has claret coming out his head.
