There’s another one behind him. The guards and the onlookers look strange. I’d wager they are French. The boots, the rifles, the canteen… But the civilians look also quite Italian.

The German looks a bit worse for wear, like he got tuned up before the parade.

So 2 prisoners perhaps they were going to hand them into the US forces seems one guard is clearing the way 50/50 if they made it even early '45 the German forces were really in a bind I'm sure the crowd would have liked to get their hands on them both seeing as ol' mate has claret coming out his head.
