It looks like the bayonet has pinned something laying on the ground . Can't tell what that is though

Definitely a lot going on in this picture. Interesting to blow it up and examine closely.
Guy in center is either pulling his 45 ACP or putting it away.
And there appears to be smoke coming from the far side of the shanty.

The set up looks like a improvised message center. The Commander's tent in the background and 1/4 ton Jeep trailer. The use of a horse to run messages is better than walking.
