Question on Anniston Date Codes

My understanding is that the ANAD date code for the pistol shown on the left is October 1980. What's the date for the other one? Do these stamps indicate reworks, or just inspections? Thanks! - Bob

Pistols that were refurbished at Government arsenals will usually be marked on the frame/receiver with the arsenals initials. These refurbishes could be minor inspections to major overhauls. The one on the right looks to have been through rebuild at Springfield Arsenal previously. The ANAD stamp on it doesn't look complete?

So far the CMP 1911 has had half marked rebuilds and half not marked as rebuilds so both ways are correct from the Government released 1911"s. This has always been true Gunshow rumors that they were all marked are just not true.

Jeep, what do you think about the one pictured above on the right? It looks like an incomplete date stamp on that one - been wondering what the the "3 7" stands for - ever seen one like that before? Thanks! - Bob

Maybe March 1970?

Not sure about ANAD code,The first one March 1980. The second one was rebuilt 2-3 times once by SA once by ANAD March 1970 think they did not stamp 0. At a company level both could have been rebuilt with no markings too. The small numbers on trigger guards factory inspector marks. My dad's 1960 DCM Colt 1918 frame and WW2 Colt replacement slide and WW2 Colt barrel, brown fiber Keye grips ,no rebuild marks and parkerized. My CMP Remington Rand frame and Ithaca slide with High Standard barrel no rebuild marks. My pal's CMP Colt frame and Remington Rand slide no rebuild marks also.

I figured it must be March 70, but I'm new to these guns and not familiar with the time frame for Anniston doing them. The date on that first one though, is October 1980. - Bob

10=Oct. 1980 and second March 1970 ,After the Vietnam war for the next 20 years or so a lot of refurbishing went on.
