An Offer I couildn't Refuse on a Hawken Shop Kit

Not my normal cup of tea but I couldn't pass this up. A Hawken Shop St Louis rifle kit for $200. Said by many to be the top of the line for this type of rifle in that it's the closest to original on the market. Current pricing on these is $1650.00 which seems ridiculous to me but it is what it is. Now to decide if I want to actually put it together or flip it. It's not an easy build but probably within my abilities, it's the time that concerns me more than anything.

Anyon else actually build one of these? I did a Thompson Center a long time ago but that was pretty easy.

I think for 200 dollars that’s a good deal.
I would put it together but if your time pressed moving it along may be a good idea.
Personally , my time for something I like to do I don’t worry much about.
Maybe , put it together and gift it to someone or just shoot/ enjoy it.
No,I never put a Hawken shop rifle together but enjoy working on percussion rifles every now and again.

I think I'll end up keeping it. I've noticed a few things missing from the kit that probably should be there based on the website. The four wedge caps are missing, the wedges themselves are there, the tap and die and drill bit for that work that needs done and the instructions. I downloaded instructions off their website. Can probably get the drill bit and tap and die if I don't already have them. I know my son in law will if I don't. The wedge caps are cheap, $5 each or a set, not sure which. I may just contact them to see how much all that would be or maybe they will be nice and just send them to me as they are missing from the box.

Piece of cake to put together. Everything is pre done for you. After you do everything an bleed on it a few times. Then you know it will be a good shooter

Like the tennis shoe folks say " Just Do It". Worthey endeavor. Just make sure you post a photo of the completed project. I have one hanging under my deer mount.

This is not an easy kit. There are numerous things that need hand fitted and it requires precise drilling and tapping in at least two places. I've read this is a 40-100 hour build time based on skill level. Nothing fits.

I'm glad you do. I'm not so sure. The drilling and tapping has me concerned as well as the positioning of the trigger and lock assembly. When I said they don't fit, I mean it. Do I carve out the front or the rear or a little of both to get them to fit? I don't know. I'm not ready to start now however so it's back burner at least till winter.
