Years ago, I was able to buy a M1A1 barreled action from a friend, early 40K serial range. It had a TRW 64 dated barrel which I was able to trade Roland Beaver for a nice SA Jan 1960 barrel. Also had a nice T-44 stock with the M1 rifle butt plate. Original wooden hanguards were always damaged and paper thin so I bought a repro wooden handguard. After spending hours removing extra wood from the handguard it looked a little better. Later i installed a ventilated handguard. photo shows testing the M1A1 at 100 yards where it shot very well, but I still like the M1 rifle alot more for collecting and shooting.

I always liked that pattern of rifle, M14 and M1A.

I bought one in the early days from Tom Buss and dressed it in early wood (no-flipper stock and wooden handguard). I love that rifle.

I even enjoyed having a Norinco 305 here dressed like a '14 until they prohibited them. Shot it all I could. It worked fine.

I was issued TRW serial number 1313951 with a TRW barrel dated 9-63 at Ft Leonard Wood, long time ago

i was stationed on a Submarine '85-'89 , we were not "issued" weapons but we had Colt 1911's , M14's and the Rem 870 sawed off , M14 was the Sail watch , 1911 was Petty Officer of the Deck , and the 870 was carried by the topside roving watch , we had to qualify everything once a year
