    03 Markings

I have a 1903 with a scant stock and these markings There is P on the stock @ scant grip.
    and these AAa and AOG.

I believe Augusta Arsenal and the a is the inspector.

It is suggested AOG is Anniston Ordnance and G would be the inspector.?

Can anyone sherd light yes or no ?

Receiver dates to 1938 and the barrel is dated 6-42

Yes. "A O" is indeed Anniston Ordnance Depot, now named Anniston Army Depot. And "G" is the inspector.

That's an AAQ, as in Q, not a lower case a.

Scant is stamped S in the cutoff, so an early one, made in '42.

The stamps both look "new", or done near the same time. It would seem that one was from the rebuild in '42, when it received the replacement stock, and the other a mear reinspection.

I have at least twenty single letter inspectors initial's after the AA plus I found another 1903 scant stock (s in cut off) with AAHO in a rectangle, AA small R 2 on a M1icon gas trap stock. Both
the Model 1917 and M1 rifle rebuilds can be found with the AA plus stamps. Also have seen a AA1204 stamp too
