L42A1 CES issued binoculars
Has anyone come across a L42A1 transit case with No.2 Mk3 bino's instead of the usual spotting scope? The case has been modified to fit the bino's and has an RAF Air Cargo Label consigned to Cyprus.
I can't see how to upload any photos.
Rifle serial # AV3671 sent to Donningham then dispatched by RAF to Cyprus. Could it be to RAF Regiment?

I have seen a chest modified to take the slightly modified/fixed SWIFT type spotting scope. But not fitted with Mk3 binos. As the extra binos were a supplementary issue in any case together with the telescope. I'd suggest that you find yourself a Swift or Scout Reg scope

I'm a bit suspicious of that rifle since it has a modified No.4Mk.2 forearm fitted which certainly isn't correct. I've seen Mk.2 forends modified back to Mk.1 configuration by patching and the addition of the tie plate and rivet as replacements for the L42A1 but never a straight modified Mk.2 forend which would be correct on an L39A1 target rifle. My uneducated guess is that the rifle and CES were repaired and assembled post military service. The stick-on labels are also another clue as they weren't as durable as good old paint.

Another observation is the stock bolt and nut are installed backwards. Do you mind if I ask where the rifle is located? If in the USA
, is there an import mark visible? They are usually found on the front underside of the barrel just forward of the forend.

See before
The rifle chest AV3671 has appeared in a earlier thread.
It seems to have now attracted sticky labels.
