Members of the 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry, are getting last minute instructions from Lt. Manotti before going out on patrol in Bougainville jungle. P.I. 16 April 1944.
He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose
There are no great men, only great challenges that ordinary men are forced by circumstances to meet.

If we know anything about the wheels of productivity with the US and it's ordnance then it could be 000,000's + Jim.
My nephew is in the Solomons on deployment with the AFP sends me pics of what ppl bring to their homes pineapple grenades, jap mortar rounds, artillery rounds and all types of ammo large and small try as they may they cannot educate the local populace not to touch the stuff.
I have no idea if any are killed by their misplaced ideal to help! he said it will take perhaps the UXB guys a 100 years to clear what was left by both combatant nations at the Solomons.

I see...like the Western Front in Belgium and France today? They've been at it already 100 years and they haven't let up a bit. Those places won't evert be clear, Vietnam, Cambodia, Western Front, Pacific Battlefields...Afghanistan, Iraq... I have no urge to collect their heavy ordnance.
