He was once asked what he would recommend if he were to be caught out in the open in a lightning storm. He said I would hold up to the sky a one iron because nobody can hit a 1 iron not even God. - later he changed his mind

BAM!!!... I know well what that's like from walking the farm fields with a brush scythe looking for thistles to cut. Just then a thunder storm blew in and the strike missed me so close I could taste Sulphur and electricity. Took a few minutes for me to venture back out to fetch the scythe. That was about 1970.

I could taste Sulphur and electricity.
Might have been the same year I was on the back porch with my brothers when a good bolt hit the chain link fence about ten yards away. The resulting ozone smell in the air might have covered the scent from my shorts.

Marine Corps, and served four years as a machine gunner and was discharged in December 1960 as a corporal with the 3rd Marine Division. - "I've been hit by lightning and been in the Marine Corps for four years. I've traveled the world and been about everywhere you can imagine. There's not anything I'm scared of except my wife.
