    Springfield rebuild of 1905 stock

This stock came from the CMPicon north from one of the veteran groups (VFW, Amer Legion etc)
and shows the front end modification to relocate the front band screw hole, the former screw hole was plugged when the stock was shortened and the caliber was changed to 30-06.

Also of interest is the rear area of the stock where the receiver fits into the stock. A
crack had developed and was repaired with wood inserts and a round plug. The butt plate that was on this stock is marked H over 8 over 18 which I am told is Troop H, 8th Cavalry, Trooper 18. Rick boreckyicon found this and sent it to me. It is a single stock bolt stock.

The receiver came from the CMP Aucton and is a RocK Island s/n 3670 with a SA 6-16 dated barrel that was later installed

I note that the stock is a Springfield Armory stock and the wood profile has been lowered from high wood to low wood.

    Thanks for sharing!
