Recently picked up a rifle I have been hunting for for a while: a Sht. LE Mk I** I.P. Interesting thing is the rifle appears to be dated for 1909 (bottom of last two digits worn or poorly struck, but top is distinctive). This is outside the typical date range for a Sht LE Mk I. There is also no evidence of the receiver charger guide having been ground off as I've read on some examples. I also considered it might be a Mk III that was for some reason "converted", but there's no evidence of linishing of the butt socket markings.
Aside from the date oddity, the rifle is in beautiful condition. All numbers matching with a bright bore. Also find the non-lightened nose cap interesting. The rifle was converted at RFI in 1917.
Thoughts? My Skennertonis currently boxed up in preparation for a move, so forgive me if I'm missing something obvious!
