    APRS @300 meters

Had my APRS out of the safe today for shot at 300 meters which I did after having a go with my 6.5 x 284 which had some very funny shots happen.
I'm putting the couple of flyers that were 100 fps faster and a couple of low ones to the powder.
It's N165 Vihtavuori that has been opened & half full for 8-9 years in my room anyway dropped 7 points so meh it is what it is.

I had one application from my APRS 308 10 scoring shots bi-pod, back rest is a sock full of garnet and scope set to 25 power as that is the rule for the scope power setting.
With it's load that APRS gave me it poked in a respectable 50 with 6 X's out of a possible 50 10 X's below are the targets specifications.
The ISSF 300 metre target, which is used worldwide has an aiming mark 600mm in diameter. The x ring is 50mm in diameter and the 5 ring is 100mm in diameter.

So it equates to 10 rounds in a 100mm with 6 being within 50mm I'm pretty stoked.
The best I've done was last year 17/09/2023 at 400 meters shooting 100 with 17 X's out of a possible 100 with 20 X's man this rifle is very accurate.
Also a Fig 12 I shot at 100 meters 5 shots with bi-pod no back bag very nice cluster just a tad over 23mm.

Cinders, I've always considered the .284 Winchester one of the first "short magnums" and it is an inherently accurate cartridge. I had a Savage 99C and it put paid to all the nonsense about lever action rifles "not being inherently accurate". I took all sorts of game with it, even a very long shot on a Mountain Goat in the Rocky Mountains of Canadaicon. I've heard a lot of good things about the 6.5 .284. What bullet are you shooting?

Hi Sapper I predominantly shoot Berger 140gn VLD's but have others on hand as Bergers are unobtainium here at present in 6.5.

I have on hand 140gn Nosler RDF, 139gn Lapua Scenars, 136gn Lapua L's, 140gn ELD Hornady Match, 143gn ELD X, 147 ELD Hornady X's with some Sierra 140's.
My load development with them all wore out 2 barrels as the 6.5 x 284 is very hard on the throat and susceptible to fire cracking as well barrels are usually recrowned & chambered at @700 rounds and usually toast at 1,500-1,600 round count I'm on my 4th barrel now with another spare unchambered one.
They are very good at long range with high BC projie's they do their bit if I do mine however the 6.5 Creedmoor and 7mm SAUM have become very popular here now especially the 7mm as better .284 projectiles have been manufactured nowadays.

Couple of pics of my set up Savage 110 action dual port load, 30" Krieger 1-8 heavy brl, Ken Farrell mounts on a 20 MOA rail with 8 x 80 March bedded into a custom F class stock
