scope identification ? used on 1903??

I just have acquired an interesting scope, solid brass, marked Telescope M18 1942 and a serial number 2637, under this are the initials, A.B.Q. Does anyone know where this scope was made and who made it and what application it was put to? I think it is a rifle scope, with the reticle marked L and R and with incremental lines in the cross hairs and also an interesting sun shade that pulls out from the scope end, also of brass. And, from the same deal, I did pick uup my Lyman Alaskan, 21/2 power scope with ring, in near new condition, for my Springfield 03-a4 . what a day I had today, even my wife wasn't to upset.

It's most likely an artillery scope. Certainly not a scope for a springfield. You will be pretty disappointed about using an Alaskan on an A4. The turret is in the wrong place for proper eye relief when mounted on the proper Redfield base and rings.

I like using an alaskan on my a4, especially when shooting up to 200 yards, far better IMHO than a weaver 330 330c. Anything more, I use a bushnell 40x.

Sorry flubbed the attachment on previous post. Hopefully this will work.

Note the safety should clear the eyepiece when mounted as shown. The 330C(M73B1) was a fairly long eye relief scope but the A4 could not take advantage of it with the Redfield mount because the W&E adjustmrnt plate interfered with the rear sope ring.

iv had no problems with the safety mounting the Lyman scope farther back.
the safety will work fine even just a tad lifted. 1/4 of the way up.
i use a Weaver 3x9 Marksman on the A4 that has a larger rear eye piece, and they work awesome, small enough bell to clear the handguard without modification of the handguard.
