Loose Front Sight Base
I finally got around to doing some semi-serious sighting in with my Korean import (Arlington) Winchester mix-master carbine. It has the original Winchester barrel. I was pleased in that (with my old eyes)I could consistently get 5 shots within 3-4 inches off a front rest at 100yds, using PMC ammo. But when I was cleaning it, I noticed the front sight base is loose. It has a little rotational and sliding play. Not enough to really see, but plenty enough to feel. Is there any easy fix for this. I guess the base is pinned through a slot in the barrel, meaning either the pin is too small or the slot is too big. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds like the key under the front sight is loose in the key way. A new key will take care of the play in the sight and tighten it right up.

Knock the pin out and pull the front sight off. The peen the key a bit while it is in the slot. Then put the sight back on and replace the pin. You should be good to go.
When they tell you to behave, they always forget to specify whether to behave well or badly!

Thanks for the advice. I'll try the peening bit first to see if that helps.

I've had some luck using a small nail punch....ground down to a fine point and staked the backside of the key.
Good Luck

Just wanted to add,
If you have to remove the frt sight....oil it first...then grease the muzzle end to keep from scratching it up.
