What is a good powder to use for the 45ACP 230 grain FMJ? I was thinking about titegroup loaded for 800fps. Thoughts?

Unique works well for me. I've never tried Titegroup so I can't say anything about it.

If you have Red Dot give it a try.

I am slowly getting to the point of using Bullseye in the 45ACP, but till then I still have a bunch of W231 to burn. So I don't have any bullseye loads with a 230 FMJ. I do have an excellent load with W231 and a FMJ.

I am loading this with VV N320 and also VV N310.
The better one is the N320 , 4.6grs., CCI LP, OAL 1.25".
Doing very well in my Springfield Trophy Match.

The 230 grain bullet of the M1911 Ball cartridge was very reliably launched by Bullseye powder back during the First World War. Bullseye worked well then and it still does today. Having said that I also get good results with various other powders including 700-X, WW 231, and Red Dot to name a few.

I use 6.5 grains of Bullseye for 230gr FMJ or RN Lead

Are you sure? I use 4.5 grains Bullseye under a 230 L for 800 fps. 6.5 grains sounds like way too much powder.

I agree that 6.5 grains of Bullseye is HOT. I have an old Lyman manual that dates back to 1960, and they weren't too conservative then. At that time they suggested 4.9 grains for 825 fps. The old military load was 800 fps +- 25fps.
