Very interesting. It really is incredible to consider the sheer logistics behind these firearms. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for your story. The electrical tape is just a temporary, reversible fix. I do not trust my woodworking skills enough to add material to the anti-rotation lugs ;). I did notice at least 2...
I would buy a spare catch just to make sure.
The binding problem was much more complex than I thought, and the sources are threefold:
-The sheet metal cover was bent and dented
-The...
Thanks for the info. I do agree that there are not many dangerous springs involved here. Pretty convenient.
I did notice a hairline crack around the magazine catch. I expect it is going to break...
Of course! Otherwise the cap and spring cannot be retained. I just assumed that the tougher spring will be the buttcap spring, am I wrong?
Haha! I wasn't talking about the two recoil springs. I was describing the procedure for the buttplate buffer spring retained by the screw for the sling mount, as it was also disassembled.
Yes. The original number is clearly visible. I bought this object from a Swiss gunsmith who collects and makes cutaway models. I actually paid 350 CHF, which as you said, I converted to GBP.

Thank you all for your kind words! This sure was a wonderful learning experience. Ironically, the armorer's manual just came today.... At least I have written reference now ;)

Thanks for the info. I am sure that it would be really nice to own a factory cutaway, but unfortunately, I have an amateur, mismatched cutaway. I will be on the lookout for a factory version and will...
All the pictures are now posted here. Enjoy!
Hi all.
This is the continuation to the "Bren Gun: Help Needed" thread. After lots of hard toiling, cleaning, breaking screwdriver tips, and swearing, the gun was put back together, with no parts...
Sorry! No camera available on hand for the moment. But everything turned out fine! The Bren is completely reassembled, and functions beautifully. Will post pictures soon...;)
Yes, sorry, I didn't understand how the parts interacted. I figured it out, and it's almost completely done! All I'm left is the butt assembly. I do have another issue though.
I have tried...
Thanks Peter. I do have the booklet from Ian Skennerton, but there seems to be no mention of the pins you mentioned. I will see what I can do.
Hi all, back again. I have finally started serious work on the Bren. The stock and grip have been very lightly sanded and cleaned with mineral spirits, then boiled linseed oil was brushed on several...
I do agree. I tend to be pessimistic, sorry. The overall integrity is okay, and it will sure need some refinish work. I already purchased some sanding blocks, paper, and boiled linseed oil. As you...
I'll try to look for local people who have such equipment. Just to be sure, what you are referring to is hot salt bluing, am I correct? Or is it more of a parkerization? Also, I can try rust bluing...
Thanks a lot for the explanation. This is a well thought-out system. I do agree that the work done to this Bren leaves much to be desired.

Wow! I did not even realise this. Please tell me more about this feature. It that is the case, I will try to procure a new Mk1 pattern carrier.
Also, the firing pin retainer/pin does not want to...
Thank you for your insight. This is indeed amateur work. I'll be honest, I have no intention on any serious machining work on this piece, but thanks a lot for the proposal B.P.
This Bren has close...
Hi all!
Here are the pictures of the Bren gun, partially reassembled for display.

Closeup of the finish I was talking about. The same finish appears on most small parts and the rear...
I will be sending pictures tomorrow afternoon (Europe time). The second package should arrive, so all the parts will be complete.
Thanks for your feedback. I also feel the same, as there really is not any historical value left off this gun. If I understand, the SKN spec asks for phosphating, yes? Ot is it literally a...
I understand what you mean. I do not really wish to refinish this gun, since I actually like the patina, but the finish as delivered does not feel original at all. Did the John Inglis plant use...
