Beautiful COLT, but the fact that it has been engraved complicates any validation.
IMO a lot depends on "who" engraved it, regardless its look.
I would leave where it is.
FWIK in 1914 Canada orderd 5000 COLT models, and these are in the C3000 to C13500 serial number range.
These 1515 pistols lend-leased to Canada in WWII were first shipped to Springfield Armory, and...
You're right, here in Italy for instance the market is completely stuck. If you buy something nice (and expensive) you'll never be able to sell it, unless you give it away for half the price. It's...
With the same serial number? How could it be possible since this pistol does not fall into any known SN overlap ranges?
I've just found on the Net a REMRAND for sale with that "A" stamped close to the S/N.
Contrary to what the seller states I don't think it has anything to do with the serial number, I suppose it...
COLT's developed several different styles of lettering for their roll marks during the years, FWIK they changed the S/N fonts in 1945 but I can't find exactly when.
FWIK REMINGTON RAND produced about 875,000 pistols; COLT 629,000; ITHACA 335,000; US&S 55,000; and SINGER only 500.
Nice gun, but it looks refinished to me.
I would simply replace all the springs, and install a shock buffer.
Shock buffers are supposed to cushion the impact of the slide against the frame, probably they are of no use if the gun is...
Would be interesting to see a couple of pictures, it sounds like a pretty scarce magazine, those mags here in Italy are impossible to find.
Members in Texas and Florida, how is everybody?
As you can see is not only a matter of a strange receiver, the slide has got contrary rollmarks!
This gun does not belong to me, I've seen it on the Net, in all honesty as soon as I noticed I thought it was some sort of fake, still I'd love to know the opinions from people more expert than me...
It looks like a nice gun, congrats.
As somebody says, asking for an evaluation without pictures is like asking for an haircut through the phone...
Gorgeous example, congrats.
From the pictures it looks like a nice gun, I don't think it would cost you an arm and a leg to look for correct parts to replace.
If you could give us some up close , detailed pictures we could probably help you out.
Need some good photos. Flash photo burns out the middle and leaves the rest too dark to see. Outside in open...
Obviously I was referring to a copy of ITHACA's original shipping records that were found 23 years ago.
It was a direct sale at the gunshop.
Who said that miracles do not happen?
They do happen.
Not long ago I saw a completely refinished and unmatching (wrong trigger, wrong MSH, unmatching slide stop lever, unmatching slide) US&S ...
Mr Laidler
Thanks for your answer.
FWIK some companies like COLT for instance kept meticulous records of their initial shipments of their frames and upon request & payment of a fee they can...
I got in touch with ITHACA already, they do not have them.
I was told that when the assets of Ithaca Gun Company were sold off in New York in 2005, they obtained neither the old company’s records...
