Is the firing pin and spring supposed to be removed before being able to remove the bolt from the sleeve? The Ross Mk.III handbook I downloaded has the bolt being removed from the bolt sleeve before...
Thank you all for the advice, but unfortunately no developments. I have tried fiddling with it for literally hours now. Also tried cooling the bolt and sleeve assembly in the freezer, then heating...
I see no evidence of the rivet, and I was under the impression that it would merely inhibit incorrect re-assembly and does not prevent the bolt being stripped.
This is as far as the bolt will extend from the sleeve. From what I have observed in videos it should just continue to unscrew but it just stops.

Hello fellow Ross rifle owners. I recently acquired a Ross MkIII for my First World War infantry rifle collection. The rifle is turning out to have a number of issues that must be addressed before I...
Looks like a Yugoslavian M48, though the grasping grooves in the stock are unusual. Can you post a picture of the bolt head removed from the rifle?

It says "Mauser Mod.1910". It's a Model 1910 commercial military rifle (you can see the German commercial firing/acceptance proofs on the receiver ring forward of the serial number). The receiver...
Looks like a Polish Wz.29/K.29. The (Z) mark was also used on Polish-made rifles, the front sight base is correct, and the handguard-retaining lip on the receiver ring is another clue. If it's been...
Very nice looking rifle you have there; my "B"-block Vz.98/22s is just 197 rifles ahead of yours. I'd guess yours probably picked up the German bolt in Turkey, or during importation to the USA.

The easiest way to tell if the rifle has been converted to 8x52R is to look at the rear sight base. The graduations were marked on the side of the sight ramp for the original 8x50R cartridge. When...
It looks like a Spanish M1943. That D-ring set into the side of the stock, the almost-full-length handguard and dual sling swivels are all present on the M43.
The bayonet lug adapter is so the...
The 6.5x55mm cartridge wasn't developed by Mauser, but by a joint commission of Norwegian/Swedish officials.
If the bottom of the bolt face is squared off, then it's definitely a Spanish Mauser. It looks to me like a M1916 Short Rifle, 2nd pattern. These were chambered in 7x57mm, and many were later bored...
