What it LOOKS like is a butt from a Red Ryder BB gun. It looks like the whole of the carbine from the front band back was wrapped by cloth. This ain't some scarce carbine, just a handmade...

The first pics looks like a mockup of the carbine too. Looks like he has it taped on. The others look more like the spike with two rings that was tried by some...simple affair.
