Some (very few) SC 2-44 dated barrels have been reported.
Did you happen to make a note of the s/n of that rifle with the SC 1-44 dated barrel?

I would say "YES", it is a very good chance it is original to your receiver.
Barrel dates seem to vary some in that s/n range.

I too, like those 8siders. In my opinion, they look very nice.
A 26" tube also works good with some slow burning powders when making up your own handloads.
