Interesting marking method with a chisel...Mk 1/1 is a bit rough.
I'd have doubts it's actually suncorite and I'd just take it off. If it comes off with acetone it's just paint. I prefer blue or park or what remains.
I remember the movie well, one of my earliest favorites.
I made my own out of wax back in the '80s and shot a beer can at 10 feet, almost tore it in half.
You jumpers are all the same...
We used to use a steel outer shell and poured lead jaws custom to what we were unscrewing. The barrel was grabbed in lead also with rosin and tightened down with a two ton jack in a steel box. The...
I'll bet that bore shoots just fine for military standards. We've seen in past bores that were as new didn't group well and dark skeptical bores shot little tiny groups. If it's in your possession...
We still issue 100 rd bandoleers for the 5.56 ammo. Packed in tens with a mag charger included, it makes for faster reloads. I don't think anyone carries anything but loaded mags outside either. ...
Developed for the Air Force no less.
I'd just have it joined and not heat the rest of the shaft. There'd only be the one spot of weld, very short area. I'd use a piece of drill shaft for the front and take it down to length and...
Horsec@ck ...it's a simple welding job. Call around to a few and you'll find someone willing, or if you can find a good welder he'll do it. I have a friend here that would tack it together and I'd...
Yes, they were re-barreling them then with new barrels. We had new Long Branch barrels coming out of the system here in the mid '70s and available for installation. The armorers books still showed...
The cost was reasonable then and staggering now, except they're completely gone. The man that sold them too... Still then, I didn't have the cash to buy those scarce examples.
Short answer without pics is no, they used a magazine.
Yes, and less.
You didn't mention that...but if you place a WTB here in the forum provided you will probably find what you seek.
Balance that foresight a bit more in the base and those shots will fall tenX... Nice.
The mixed parts are normal for an old service rifle.
I hear you on that. That's the school gun I had...turned down at muzzle and took a bayonet. They were neat.
Those I've had opportunity to buy back in the '80s...just about new condition.
Thanks Bubba, I have owned about 25 carbines through time from all but the one prime contractor and never had issues with any of the Gov't issue. I didn't take many carbine bolts apart for cleaning...
Looks pretty good alright, we don't see to many of those but I had one of each...rifle, school gun and carbine. Had bayonets too, this one should shoot fine after it settles in.
You say...
How...
Sorry to hear, you know the definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result... The target looks good and rifle too. Take care.
Do the small part like plungers actually take such a beatin' during range use Charlie? I wouldn't think...I know shooting is shooting but still. You have them in need of regular replacement?
Nicely done...
