I do not know of a demise of the USMC sights. Clark Campbell, in his book, "The '03 Era....", page 60, indicates that "the Marines (to include their usually very successful rifles teams) continued...
Well I'll be.. so it is! Thanks John.

Well it looks like all you're going to need is a good stock. handguard and the stock metal.:D. start will Bill Ricca for the stock metal. As to stocks, I'm not sure of a source for original A3...
John,
I've been wanting to ask for some time, what is that in your avatar photo?

Chief
my pleasure Bill. Here are a couple of quick pics of my Greek return, circa 1931.

Bill,
The various marks on the wrist, and bottom of the pistol grip are most probably Greek in origin. The large B stamped on the magazine floorplate indicates that the latch has been pinned to...
the front sight base looks odd to me. It appears to be a 1903 type. Never saw one with a pin in the middle though.
Some acetone might remove those cosmoline stains on the receiver.
Nice rifle,...
So do we call you "Rick the Mailman" now?;)

Thanks Jim,
I hadn't considered that they may be unit markings. Never heard of reproduction unit markings, but you just never know. Whatever it is supposed to represent, the "author" wanted it to...
Is there supossed to be some significance to bubba's AMB?

The D.A.L. looks like mine, but what is AMB? Looks like the rear gaurd screw bushing is missing also. The circle P is sans serif?

Is a Remington milled follower marked with an R? If so where would the marking be? How about the FRSB? (no lightening cuts)
regards,
Chief
No expert here but your milled ,checkered buttplate's (nice piece BTW) natural home is on an SA 1903. The Remington type was stamped.

My Ishapore .303 has a forearm that is warped/twisted. The nose cap leans againest the front sight post. The warping/twisting starts just forward of the lower band. Has any one seen this before? ...
I did some work for the local Marine Corps league and they made me an Honorary member. The flag came with it along with a certificate. Besides it is a USMC rebuild after all! They also supplied the...
I've got one of those also. It is an HRA 4.7 mil marked O-66 behind the rear sight. The barrel is an SA 11-53. Second place Trophy for pistol shooting at '97 All Navy match. The stock is SA/JLG...
Thanks John and Emri. That is just what I was looking for.
Emri I could get some pics of the rifle but you wouldn't like it. It is but a shadow of its former greatness. Some long forgotten "owner"...
I, personally like to use Formby's or Minwax antique furniture refinisher. It will cut the crud and doesn't take a long time to do it. It also has a pleasant smell, if that sort of thing is...
Emri,
So the trigger guard would be blued also?
regards and thanks,
Chief
folks,
I have a Rem 1903 SN 31427xx with a Rem barrel dated 5-42. There is also the ord stamp with a punch mark in the "bomb". I checked VI shooters site and found that the SN dates to July '42. ...
Fair enough.

Why did you feel you needed to do this? What's the point?

They keep the bullet tips from rubbing a hole in the bandoleer. They don't have anything to do with "silencing".

Chief
These are cardboard inserts for the cloth bandoleers used with the M1, the 8 rd marked ones anyway. They might work with the 5 rd strippers for the M14.
