Sorry, a little late!
Happy New Year from Canada!
All the best, cheers!
Surpmil, there’s lots of green paint. All of the exposed metal parts have green paint on them.
Mk VII, I figured that UCF was a subcontractor, was hoping to figure out who that was.
Two questions regarding serial number stamps on Lee Enfield rifles.
-I have been told by a highly regarded local “expert” that magazines on LE rifles were not originally stamped with serial numbers....
I have a 1945 BSA Shirley No5 Mk1. It has been in my possession for around 35 years. Finally pulled it from the safe to disassemble, clean and inspect it. It’s all matching and appears to have it’s...
I wondered whether the eye position would be way off. Haven’t been able to try out the rifle as is yet to form any opinion on that. I do appreciate your opinion, I suspect this idea is a non starter!...
I have a new to me BSA commercial and was considering installing a cheek rest and sniper sling swivel for use as a target rifle. It already has a Parker No9 adjustable rear sight. Thought it would...
I am familiar with the cheek rest on the No4 Mk1T. Was there ever a cheek rest meant for a No1 Mk3 rifle? In particular a British rifle? If so, are originals or reproductions available today?
Apparently BSA produced rifles in between the first and second world wars that weren’t meant for military service. They look the same but are marked differently. I believe many were used for target...
I’m interested in the BSA commercial rifles.
Wondering how common they are and whether they are comparable in value to a military No1 Mk3.
Any other information or comments are most welcome!
It...
I’ve seen that one as well, interested to see if anyone can explain it.
I have 2 Savage No4’s. The one pictured above is from May 1943 and the other is November 1942.
In my limited experience the flaming bomb is usually stamped on the wrist and sometimes on the bolt...
I have an unmolested Savage No4 MkI* with all original components.
I’d be happy to provide any detail pictures you need to help with the restoration.

Thanks for the info gentlemen, confirms my suspicions. Perhaps me calling them fakes wasn’t the best choice of words but they definitely aren’t originals. I sincerely hope the buyers know/knew what...

Here is another example from a past auction. This is the one that...
I was reluctant to post a link in case I was mistaken. Don’t want to make any false accusations!
Here’s one that is up for sale now....
I have recently started following the firearm auctions (Canada) through Icollector in an attempt to collect more “stuff” I probably don’t need!
On a few occasions I have come across No.4 rifles with...
I have an Irish Contract bayonet in excellent condition!
If you own the matching rifle I’ll make you a deal on the bayonet! PF321038

A few pictures of the rifle in question.
Only the original stampings on the metal, no extra acceptance or proof markings.
On the butt socket: serial number, “B” and a poorly stamped flaming bomb....
I’ll post some pictures later this week. What makes me think this one may be original is the lack of any proof, acceptance or ownership marks other than what was done at Savage.
Definitely sounds like a possibility that it was redone at some point. Did you go to the trouble of scrubbing proof marks, replace bolt heads, barrels, etc.? It’s usually pretty easy to see where...
I have 2 Savage built No4 Mk1* rifles that I acquired long ago.
One has the usual markings plus a British proof stamp and “England” stamped on the receiver. It is in very good condition but...
mattyboy82 thank you, very nice to know how, why and when it made it’s way from the UK to Australia .
At what stage were the wartime rifles stamped with the D^D?
Any significance to my rifle not...
No “FTR” stamp and no “D Broad Arrow D” on mine.

I haven’t taken this rifle apart yet but strangely, I don’t see a D Broad Arrow D marking on it. Wonder why that was not done, unless it’s hidden under the stock somewhere.
