Well now that's good news and bad news. The good news is that I may not be tempted to pound a sinker through the barrel and it's probably not oversized. The bad new is that I have a LOT of bullets...
Has anyone slugged the Johnson barrels to check the sizing? I know some of the 1917s had bores sized for the 303 British bullets.
I could, but my shop is a whopping 8 or 9 steps away.

Yeah, once I got into it I realized that it is a bit of a mongrel.

Yes, it's my first. As far as the stock goes, it has already been cut down and refinished, there is nothing original about it except for the buttplate.

I picked up a 1917 Enfield, Eddystone manufacture. It seemed untouched except the stock has been sporterized.
Upon tear-down and inspection, I found a few things. The barrel is marked JA,...
The bolt head is a number 1.
The striker is on straight, and is not loose.

Thank you for your observations. I will look into it.

Thank you for the interest. I didn't realize it was an early production piece until you pointed it out. The serial # is 16CXXXX. What I thought was a serial # on the barrel (near the muzzle) turns...
Thank you very much. I was beginning to think I was invisible.

Sorry I asked........................
I'll look elsewhere.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what kind of guns in the UK are subject to de-activisation and what, if any, are not.
This is a very alien concept to me.

Yep, it seems that kids are good at usurping technology.
Here are some pics:
My LGS called to tell me he got in an Enfield. He knows I am into old military guns, I returned the favor by getting my buns to his shop ASAP.
The gun he has is a very nice No.4 Mkl*. The stock...
Boy, I have plenty of bullets, powder, and brass. I'd be more than happy load you some, but I wonder how many hoops one would have to jump through to get them to you.

I have a good amount of surplus ammo, late 1930's vintage. I have tried shooting some, a high amount of FTFs. I have disassembled some of the unfired rounds, the powder seems to be breaking down. I...
I agree with Patrick. An accurate slugging of any milsurp is highly advised, especially on one in which the bore size is known to vary in spec.
Here is a good read on Carcano reloading in...
I have a Lee decapping die. I works for all of my cases and I decap them before cleaning. Most of my die sets are RCBS. I removed the decapping pin in those, one less thing to worry about since the...
Tried the loads out last weekend. I actually tried 2 different loads. The first was 33 grains of IMR 4320 with the bullets listed in my firs post, the second was 34.5 grains. There were no signs of...
Yeah, and it was an original in decent shape.

Murder Mitten? Another reason those of us north of Saginaw wish those south of Saginaw would let us northerners form our own state.

Somewhere, somebody in my family ended up with a mint (really) Remington M91 dated 1917. My dad had it for years until Grandma died and all the guns were re-distributed to her kids by hat draw. My...
Don't worry, I'm not interested in trying out the local emergency room, even though my is a nurse at that hospital.
I wouldn't call it guessing. I would call it "considered and researched...
Shooting a "standard" 7.62 round in that Mosin would be very unhealthy for gun and shooter.
Here is a good article on the Chinese M44:

LOL, I'm not really worried about rolling up El Explodos. Here's why. Most load data is compiled for the bullet size. Most bullet companies don't manufacture .268" bullets, so they use their .264"...
