The most likely way to get a pristine 1968 SKS w/o an import stamp is that the importer missed it. It happens. I've seen it several times. I could be wrong but it is the simplest answer.

I had a 1949 many years ago but it was also a rebuild. It was interesting to see another from that era that appears to have the date/insignia, etc looking almost hand-done compared to the later SKS....
I sold hundreds back before Klinton stopped the importation of the Ruskies. Stock was blued, some few were black parked but only if rebuilt. Saw no, and I mean NO, painted Ruskie SKS or Albanian...
The one thing I remember about the Blue Sky imports was the ridiculous depth of the import stamps. I swear you could see see the imprint on the inside of the barrels. :D
