The principal markings on the exterior of this 12-42 barrel dated M1A1 carbine.
Supposedly the M1A1 carbines only started to get distributed in 10-42.

Do your homework regarding these late M97 trench guns ....how...
The late trench guns shown below have serial numbers 953,081 and 955,352.
Both have the front bead sights filled in.
Both have barrel notches under the barrel used to secure barrel band typically...
