I confirm. My pulled bullets cannelure are filled with a greenish wax/grease and the cases were headstamped MJ VII 1942, CP VII 43 and CP VII 44.
True, it could be sealing wax indeed. Then, I guess it's of no importance in reloads whether bullets are tumble cleaned or not ?
I can't tell but the work looks nicely done and although the muzzle may be wobbled in the forend, the rifle groups within 2-3 MOA...

It's still filled with grease, though...
I use to salvage bullets from (corrosive primed/cordite loaded) WWII ammo before handloading them with modern primers and powder. However, I tumble pulled bullets prior to handloading until they...
My Savage Mk I* marked "U.S. PROPERTY" was built in 1943. However, it was FTR'd in 1953 and got a new stock (center bedded) and barrel. The stock bears no other stampings than a "F53" under the...
I'm not ready to accept Photobucket's latest blackmail and am willing to move to another photo hosting site. Any recommendation welcome.
Thanks in advance.
My .303 Br. L-E N°4 MkI* shoots quite well with 174 SMK / N 140 / 40.0 but, considering the present cost of SMK's, I decided to try bulk (500) 174 PPU FMJ. Prior to loading them, I discovered that...
I have a 37 DS Police that looks a lot like yours, except for the rifle sights and oiled stock (no varnish). My gun is in nearly new state and is devoid of stock stampings but then, it was obviously...
You're right, Patrick. This target dates from when I switched to a higher front sight (the rifle shot way too high at 100 m with the original blade, sights being originally set at 300 m). I filed...
Thanks RC 20. My 1901 CG was factory refurbished and got a new stock (crown under pistol grip). It was apparently never reissued and still looks (and shoot...) like new. All parts number match...

Thanks friends, it worked. I found a suitable "anvil" to insert inside the magazine, under the dent, and hammered from outside until the dent was reduced and the follower could slide freely.
Thanks, I used to repair my dented Colt Govt. magazines via the "opposite" hole technique but then, the magazine remained hidden in the pistol grip. Here, the subject remains in plain view, so I'd...
One of my magazines in working ok with 5 rounds but when loaded with 10, the follower sticks inside at the height of a small dent in the magazine side. No doubt this subject already came up in the...
Thanks, Jim.
I wonder if stock parts made by Savage and/or Long Branch are readily interchangeable between N4's rifles of both origin ?
Also what's the purpose of the fiber wad resting against the large...
Thanks to everybody for the wealth of info
A friend presented me with a hundred military .303 British rounds of 1942 vintage in excellent condition. Nevertheless, I didn't feel like shooting corrosive ammo in my pristine bore, so opted for...
I'm satisfied with the Hornady custom grade dies in 8x57 JS I bought last year . I like the floating sleeve of the seating die. I already used Hornady's in .300 Win Mag, 7,5x55 SW, 6,5x55 SE.
For my precision rifles, I use Redding Competition micrometer dies. For hunting and informal shooting, I have (old) Lyman dies, RCBS, Hornady. I load 8x57JS with the latter, no real preference but...
I'll concede that, I'm custom loading for one particular rifle and realize that sizing for different guns/chambers complicates headspace management.
I do likewise, partial sizing with FL RCBS sizer and I haven't lost a case after 5 x reloading (= 6 firings) S&B factory ammo. However, I believe that chamber dimension is paramount. My rifle is a...
Very nice specimen but the sling is mounted incorrectly. Hooks should be facing outside to avoid scratching the stock.
