Jeez, just to nit-pick. It looks like the officer inspecting is the only one with the correct pant leg length. The Marines look sloppy.

Looks like 3 BARs among 7 men. The Marines were serious in Korea.
Might as well hear the song.

Looking at the handguard on the M1, could it be an 03 guard? Looking at the front HG it looks long. Maybe a photo problem.
Nice boots on the guy with the M1A1.
Just curious, but is that two straps on the rear hand guard on the M1.
I'm surprised to see a drum magazine that late in the war. At least that's what it looks like.
I've read the "Ghost mountain boys". My dad wasn't involved with that operation. He said they flew over the mountains on "47s" . I am getting a couple of brothers together to try to record some of...

I know what you're saying. I was a Marine in VN and kidded him how he had it made being in the Army. BTW, i got a field promotion from Sgt to Cpl for a little extra beer they said didn't...
This is a picture of my Dad in Buna in 1943. He had returned from a patrol, soaking wet, and put his clothes by a fire to dry. The problem was someone stoked up the fire and burned his clothes. He...
Do you have a link to that film? It sure sounds like it's interesting.
I can't really tell, but is that garand a M1C? It sure looks like a scope to me.
I'm just going to throw something out there. I wonder if they weren't unloading the mags? Why would you be on a ship and taking apart a cartridge belt? The wooden deck, IIRC, was not on an APA or...
I believe the picture was taken on Tarawa by WO "Obie" Newcomb Jr. He was a Marine photographer in WW2. It looks like he placed his bag in front of the Marine for the picture.
Looks like new issue rifles. Great wood, no nicks.
What's his sidearm. It sure doesn't look like a 1911. He had to cut the holster to fit it.
I'm real surprised that a rifle was issued with the selector switch. We Marines learned it took a little training to use on auto and then we ignored it. ;)
You are right about the USMC. The Army didn't issue them.
Guadalcanal was used as a training/staging area later in the war. That would account for the equipment shown.
See I told you my eyes were going bad. Thanks
What's the rifle in the first picture on the left? It sure doesn't look like a M1. Maybe my old eyes are going bad.
K-Bars. Us Marines would never be without one. We never knew when we would run out of P-38s.
Jim:
I don't understand your question. I merely stated, in my belief, the BAR would be ready to fire in an actual combat situation. I haven't looked at the sidearm.
The "new" BARs that fire semi-auto fire from a closed bolt, because of ATF regs. The originals fired from an open bolt.
Looks like a staged picture. Why would you have the bolt closed on your BAR?
