What was the name of the show that did the segment on the WWI backpack?
Cavalry Gauntlets as well! Neat Picture
Was the open battle sight notch widened as well? Or are there issued battle sights that were designed to accomodate the wider front sight?
Hmm, saw some 03A3's in the miniseries "The Pacific" during the Guadalcanal sequences. Must be fact, I saw it on TV:rolleyes:
Agree, pass. I saw one in the Ventura Gun Show back in Sept and again in Nov for $700. It wasn't on the guys table in Jan so draw your conclusion about the value.
$55 to the sharp eyed buyer. It pays to keep your eyes open for misidentified and undervalued items.
Here's one for you; misidentified as I stated earlier.

Here's one on ebay:
US Krag rifle ACTION COVER RIA Spanish American War EXC - eBay (item 200409473334 end time Nov-29-09 17:30:20 PST)
I've seen at least two listed recently on Ebay as 1903 covers. They went for under $60 per auction. The seller could have gotten much more if he'd have listed them correctly and in the right...
The rings should be parkerized and the windage screw should be case hardened as should the scope ring screws. There are always 330's for sale online.
Rear Guard Screw? It goes up through the trigger guard and the threads are in the receiver just to the rear for the rear sight.
Or are you referring to the bolt stop screw? This pointed screw...

Looks like the remnants of a 1903 9 pocket belt with several pockets that have been removed. The saber ring indicates mounted use. The leather belting riveted on is to allow it to buckle as the...
Fortunately the Weaver mount on the rear of the receiver was offset by a gunsmith who knew what he was doing. I assume that won't present too much of a problem mounting a Redfield Base if I can find...
Actually it's a sporterized 03A3 SC. I'd like to ditch the Weaver rings and go with the Redfield 1 piece. I suppose I'll have to keep my eyes out for one at the next gun show. Thanks!
I see what you mean. The chinese Redfield base I have just doesn't seem to sit flat on the receiver ring, the curve of the base is tighter than the ring and it makes contact on both sides but not in...
What differences do you note in the newer Redfield bases that one should stay away from? Just curious about your observation. Thanks!

Mislead by Poyer again (The M1903 Springfield Rifle and Its Variations)
In what he terms a Type 8 sear, he states "those manufactured by Smith Corona were often marked X."
In what he terms a...
I pulled the sear & trigger on my SC and it turns out the trigger is marked with an R as well. The blued trigger I described fits the description and in it went with an unmarked sear I have as well....
Thanks, the thinnest of the triggers is very well machined, the middle one is somewhat rough and blued. I'll pull the thickest(phosphate finish) which is the trigger currently in my SC (along with...
What should I look for in a Smith-Corona trigger? Are they plain or X stamped like the sear? I have three different smooth triggers, the main difference is the level of thickness and taper to the...
You can try Springfield Sporters as well. They tend to have somewhat better quality parts than Numrich (less rust & pitting), but the spring may not be as critical (cosmetically) compared to other...
If you want to bring your Winchester up to spec, it will be somewhat more challenging than matching up a comparable Eddystone or Remington rifle. I'd recommend you start at Springfield Sporters. ...
I wrote their customer service following my order, just because I was so mad at myself for ordering from them when there was a much more reasonable way to purchase this item. No answer! My bad for...
