Guys? What say you?
Sounds about right. It certainly is not like any other inspectors mark I have seen, and neither is it a stamp from rebuilding, like AA (Augusta Arsenal) or ANAD (Anniston Army Arsenal).
Does anyone have an opinion of the meaning of the number "41" stamp just forward of the slide stop "button"?
Thanks. I really do prefer the "used" appearance.
The double diamond grips are new manufacture; I just like the look. The old plastic ones are what came on the gun. The fact that the rack numbers...
I don't think this gun was a Lend Lease because the serial number on the frame shows it was made in 1918. Much too early for Lend Lease which came about in the early days of WWII.
AND the CMP 1911...

I used my wife's iPad (with her help) to take these pictures of my Service Grade CMP 1911 obtained in August through the RNG lottery.
To recap the...
I'll see if I can take some worth seeing. I tried it earlier with my old flip phone and the detail was ng.
I turned out to be one of the lucky ones with an RNG of 8005 — which initially made me believe I was not going to get a 1911 this go around. AND CMP informed me at the time I got my RNG that I would...
I'm pretty sure Angus Starling (the religious Scotsman) in The Ghost And The Darkness was carrying a Martini Henry when he was killed by the lion.
Maybe that is because so many of us had lots of questions that we asked and were answered over there.
Now because of that we have fewer questions to ask...for the moment at least.
But — I for...
Waaaay COOL! We cannot have too many of these aircraft.
Perhaps the closest the US came to having a comparable aircraft would be the B-25 Mitchell?
I do know there were variants that mounted...
Absolutely true. The M1 Carbine Forum was my Go To place when I first got my Underwood M1 carbine from the CMP. Almost everything I know about it was learned from the great people at that site.

Just an update on my search for information about the birch stocks.
I mailed my question to the historical department of the Savage company.
After several weeks they responded. Their answer was...
Thanks, but I'm not looking to buy a replacement.
My question is just for the history of the rifle. All the wood on my rifle is fine.
:dancingbanana:Thanks, Mk VII.
I knew this is the right forum to go to!
So can we say that there is a 50% probability that Wood Mosaic made the stock, and also a 50% chance it was one of the...
Unhappily, I cannot. They went out of business in the 1980s or 90s.
Thanks for the suggestion, though.
I just called Savage Arms and found out they do have a historical department. They ask for...
Thanks for the quick answer.
I had not thought of the possibility that Savage might have made their own stocks.
It makes quite a lot of sense — but if they were making several different...
Does anyone know what companies made the birch stocks for the Savage and Stevens Lee Enfield No4 Mk1* rifles?
By the serial number, I know mine was made in Oct or Nov 1943.
Sprague and...
New guy from New England checking in for the first time.
I have only recently (last two years or so) become a gun owner, but have always been interested in fire arms, and been an advocate of the...
