It looks like birch. She's a beauty.
The CMP sold out of USGI M1s a few years ago. The Greek M1s are a mixed blessing. The Rack and most of the Field Grades look rattier than anything that was in the US inventory. Unissued Arsenal...
Why not ask AIM if it's corrosive? I use Hoppe's#9 to clean after shooting corrosive ammo and haven't had a problem. The old GI bore solvent would probably work too.
That's the way to do it. Nice job.
I have used some of the out-of-spec clips with no major problem other than having to use extra effort to insert them into the receiver. I discard them afterwards.
"Apparently the Wilson case gause is not a sure-fire final gauge."
It always has been for me. Are the cases all trimmed to length? ...

Hodgdon's chart has H-4895 at #69 and IMR-4895 at #71.
Two different sources come from two different labs, two different test barrels, different lots of powder, different bullets, probably different...
Widener's has IMR-4064 and British surplus 4895 in 8lb kegs. They also have H-4895 and Vitavuori N-140 in 1lb cans if cost is no object.
You might be thinking of Kiwi Cordovan shoe polish, although it's a paste not a liquid.
Several years ago I put one of the Boyd "skinny" stocks on a HRA Rack Grade.
It's a nice carrying M1, and handles well. For position shooting, I'd want a fatter stock.
If you ever reload for the M1 Garand, you'll encounter lots of dented case- mouths.
I was one of the two-dozen or so (gifted) trainees in my Basic Training Company that was offered a chance to sign up for Explosive Ordnance Disposal. I believe one or two accepted. IIRC, the test...
I insert the bullet tip of a loaded round into the deformed case mouth to restore its concentricity before attempting to insert the case into a die.
You could cut the case mouths back with a Lee...
If you bring the barreled receiver to a Gun Show, you may be able to find a GC that goes on easier; just make sure that the bore is still within spec. As for the HGs, maybe your Douglas barrel is...
Since November or a few months before, there's been a lot of panic-buying and hoarding, on top of an already strong demand for small arms ammunition.
For a fee (I believe), CMP will search their records for your rifles. If they were sold as Collector Grades and have not been molested, this would be a good investment.
The right way to do it is to shoot in a qualifying match.

I hate the thought of dry pins in a trigger group. Gotta grease 'em.
Nice blonde. I've used polyurethane on the insides of stocks but never on the outside because it's too hard to remove.
Leupold and Burris make Scout (IER) scopes. Some pistol (LER) scopes can also be used on scout scope mounts. I have used both on a lever action rifle with good results.

Interesting thread. Some of the guys who are shooting the Centurion .223 ammo from AIM surplus are reporting that there's an ammonia smell when firing but otherwise it's GTG.
If they had punched the proper load parameters in to the crane's "computer", I think it would have said "nope" as soon as they got the boom extended half way over that outrigger. Someone didn't do...
