I would give you the same answer even if I didn't know where it came from. At the price of lumber, you need to know what you're looking at.

777, you already know the answer to your question!
I guess it's real, in that it physically exists.
Very nice repair job. Do you use polyurethane glue?
Now that's one I have never seen before. The revolvers really bark, i'd imagine this one is pretty bad too. Let alone semi auto :) Attachment toward the front may be a weight or port to counter the...
Triple7, my Zinc solution is https://www.duracoatfirearmfinishes.com/zinc-phosphate-parkerizing-solution-p/zps.htm
I've had it a few years but the color hadn't changed last time I used it.
My...
It's a genuine USGI flip sight for sure, and it certainly does look original to the carbine (in my opinion).
Nice looking rifle, I agree with your inclination to not change a thing.
I think the type 1 band doesn't fit this scenario though. AFAIK by the time Winchester transitioned to adjustable sights the type 2 band was in use.
I am always amazed at how different pictures can look. RR, definitely avoid a brush or anything like that. Bore cleaner should soften it but will take some time. I am at the point now, I clean them...
Rear sight is USGI. I think some sharper pictures of around the staking would help. Unless the rifle has really been detail cleaned and it's seen some use, you will see dirt, grime, oil residue...
If you have a close up picture of the receiver dovetail both sides and staking it should give a good indication if the flip has been on since it left the factory. Usually they are coded base and leaf...
I don't think you'll need to worry about a 9 spring cut on that trigger housing... It looks very nice and legit as Mr. 777 points out. How is the flip sight marked, base and leaf?
Same here, I decended from Ole, have a few of those Norwegian M4 bayonets and would love a K art. But not the right one here at that price.
I keep asking myself if inflation is really this bad. I bought my first NIW mags at a gun show ~25 years ago for $5 IIRC. They were all over gun shows for $10-15 for years.
But as recently as a year...
777, those are nice boots... Seems like each lot are 1 size which might make them harder to sell unless you're a bigger player. Not bad sizes though. Many lots of them for sale, will have to see...
I think the slight wear shown on the receiver where the bolt lug rides would look different if it were painted. Also the hardness test dimples would look like they were filled with paint? Not unlike...
Ahh, yes, that "unfired" gem. I'd run across it as well. I was thinking a fresh park job.
From the pictures Hammer posted on CCC forum, it looks righteous ;) You won't be disappointed. Very nice pickup.
I bought a carbine once with a known fake CC. Good price and the rest of the parts were real (mixmaster rebuild). First thing I did was sand off the fake CC and refinish the stock, only then did it...
I think the rear sight is repro too, here is an RR I have: Rock-ola flip sight - what say ye? - The Carbine Collector's Club
That's a shame. Not sure how fixable that is, and then having the confidence in it going forward. If it were mine, I'd just find a new receiver. Check for Colin in the CMP forum parts for sale...
Charlie, I just happen to have a loose P-U oval cut low wood on my workbench, just one hole for the butt plate screw.
The front sight shouldn't have any adjustment rotationally with the right parts. The barrel keyway, sight key, and front sight should all fit together tightly. If the front sight is tight but canted,...
I have used Loctite 620 retaining compound to secure adjustable sights and a flip sight. 620 has a thicker consistency than threadlocker. Now 620 was intended for cylindrical objects but I have it on...
A few years ago, I was taking apart a bolt with the USGI bolt tool and lost that tiny sucker when it flew somewhere in my basement, never to be recovered. That usually doesn't happen but nowadays I...
