Al,
Your Krag is from the second group of `96 carbines made about mid 1897.
The sling and swivals are not original to this carbine. The rubber butt pad will hurt the price a lot also. Some of the...

My carbine barrel arrived today also. Front sight cut is a near perfect fit with an original front sight base. Crown is just a little bit flater than an original carbine muzzle. Rear sight holes are...
Hi Joe,
Information sent.
Speaking of Model 1892 Krags, a local shop has a very nice 92/96 on consignment for $900. Not a carbine but seriously thinking about this one.

If you want to part with the one on the far right please drop me a line

Hi Rob
What are the letters and date in the cartouche?
In my area price would be in the $900-$1200 range.

That's O.K. sometimes I'm easily confused. Thank you for the reply.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Now I'm confused. Your stated s/n 11420X is about a year too early to have 'MODEL 1899' stamped on it. Would you double check the model stamping and the s/n. A close up picture would really...
Hi Steve,
MODEL 1899 carbines started in the 223,000+ serial number range and the receiver is stamped MODEL 1899.

I think one of posters from this forum had an Italian Walnut stock on Ebay recently. If so would you please contact me.
Thank you
Chuck
Dave,
The handguard in the picture is the MODEL 1899 handguard. It was used on MODEL 1899 carbines made in 1900 issued with the MODEL 1896c rear sight. The handguard your describing is the MODEL...
Nice, very nice!
Thanks for the pictures.

Texasflyboy,
Good point, side plate screws are 26tpi. So are the upper and lower barrel band screws.
Krags and 1903's used simular length front and rear T/G screws, both with the same pitch of 25...
John,
The guard screws have a pitch of 25 threads per inch. Diameter of treads were 0.25"
Remember Krags were made before the U.S. started using standardized thread sizes.

FWIW:
Picture of a scant stock

Hi Joe
From the quality and darkness of the pictures I can't tell much about the piece. Front sight looks like it may be aftermarket (Marbles?)
Someone may have gott'en a very good deal.
FWIW...
Good catch!
Look real close, you can see the rear sight is for a rifle.

Nice find, Dave
Andy,
Serial number 3400987, 1-43 barrel also has the `03 front sight on it. When I asked about the front sight on the old CSP forum. I was told Remington DID use up left over `03 parts on early...
Goo,
Looks nice, how about some close up pictures?

John,
Haven't made up my mind yet. Go to Reno or buy another Krag Carbine, decisions, decisions!
Gary will be there.

You never cease too amaze me with the information you dig up, thank you for taking the time to help target-panic out.

M1903 rifle,
That's a good question, possibly but not likely. There were already 3300+ or so carbines made by the time s/n 28026 was made. The M92 bolt more than likely was a replacement for who...
Glad the deal worked out. Now the interesting part begins, researching the history that goes along with that carbine. Please keep us updated.
