Sorry, just reread your post where you clearly said raw linseed.
Won't the uncured linseed oil rot the wood?
The whole idea behind applying a bit and letting it cure for a long time between applications is to prevent uncured oil from ending up under cured oil.
I Have seen these and they appear to be in good condition. But not new.

Hello everyone.
I hope to get a bit of help here as I take on this new Winchester project.
Some time ago I started looking for a Winchester 1895 Russian musket. Couldn't find one affordable...
I just tried this a few days ago on my warped forestock. Worked. Until I shot the rifle, and the heat from the barrel re-heated the stock and it started moving back to the warped condition as before....
Another update.
Took the rifle to the range. Here is a video:

Recap:
Front sight on it is -045, and currently it shoots about 18-20" high. The stock and...
This is a manganese solution from Brownells.
Thank you. Hope it shoots well too. Will find out soon.
I sure did learn a lot. And the instruction given here was simply irreplaceable. I very much appreciate the sharing of this valuable information and couldn't have done half of what I was able to do...
Thank you very much.
Well, I ordered another forestock. Perhaps third one will be better. I am calling them tomorrow to make sure someone takes a look at it before it ships. And if it is not...
Thank you very much, sir. I was pretty unhappy with the re-warped stock, so you were absolutely right, it went back to where it wanted to be originally. The nose cap now contacts the front sight base...
Oops! Will do that. I was feeling very disappointed by the re-warped forestock and my mind went blank.
well, I am done for now. Simply because I am tired and still need to find a non-warped forestock. Yes, Mr. Laidler was right in saying warped wood will tend to go back to being warped. Exactly what...
Thank you. I see no evidence of swaging, and now I understand that you wouldn't recommend it.
I get the point on not touching this thread until I have made some headway with the rifle.
Thank you...
Hi Peter,
What should I look for to see if it has been swaged? And how is swaging accomplished on the body (adopting your nomenclature ;) ) is that something Brian could do?
Thank you
...
Thank you. I completely understand, and if there is no way to get this rifle to headspace correctly, and if Brian will accept to take a look at the rifle and says I shouldn't shoot it, I will abandon...
Thank you Peter. I am by no means dismissing or undermining your instructions. I have two unnumbered new BSA bolt bodies on order, and three bolt heads from gunparts coming.
I will start with a...
Thank you. I called up Numrich, and asked them to send me 3 longest heads they can find, above 0.640".
Should unused bolt bodies and heads clock/index by default? If they underturn, do I remove...
Thank you Brian.
Do you know if there is a size chart available for the bolt heads? And are no2 bolt heads the same with no1?
Per Brian's recommendation I will also get an unnumbered bolt body to see if it will give me more "meat" at the locking lugs.
Where could I get the largest/longest bolt head? Are there any places...
Thank you Peter,
Tried the new bolt body and bolt head. The new head is stamped with letter "s". This is the one thst closes on no-go gauge but snugly. The original bolt head closes on No-go...
Well, I did take the rifle to my local smith and told him what the correct gauge information is (provided by Brian at BDL), and my bolt closes on No-go gauge.
So now, the search for a longer bolt...
Thank you Peter,
I have discussed with Brian sending the rifle and bolt to BDL for inspection.
I also got a new bolt head and bolt body from Numrich. Still waiting for a new striker. This is...
Sorry, are you saying that the receiver is basically done?
Thank you. I will try and check it out. Currently I can only see a flat steel washer in there, but I will try digging and see if something else is under it.
