It's been resighted for MkVII ammo so a type 3 would be correct, if it was still sighted for MkVI then a type 2 would be correct
Very nice & in superb condition but not as it was manufactured in 1906, the EFD markings & the RE stamps on the underside of the butt wrist & on the barrel would indicate a Enfield repair/rebuild

My latest is a 1896 LSA MLE MkI purchased from Canada by NZ in 1914

That pattern of cocking piece was introduced in August 1916 so is correct
Yes NZ issue, the sale mark is expected on these early NZ hookies it was applied when sold to NZ so is not really "sold out of Service" as people think when thinking SoS
The Mk2 scabbard would be...
Looks like 10 '43 to me, WW2 Wilkinson
Its very likely there will be an overlap of serial numbers MkIII vs MkIII* as they would not have been assembled in a single file production line.
Called the outer band stop pin, discontinued in 1909.

Any idea on when they stopped, my 1911 BSA MkIII has the s/n on the cocking piece

Savage produced over 1 million No4s during WW2. even working 24/7 from the 1st Jan 1941 to 31 Dec 1945 (5 full years) they would have to produce over 3,800 per week, so 1L4072 to 1L 6926 is less...
Would love to see photos of this if you could please, a 1907 SMLE would be hard to restore to 1907 correct as there were a few changes made between 1907 & 1910
Nothing wrong with fitting a Indian made cutoff, i wouldn't hesitate fitting one myself, you can always change it out later
Lithgow cutoff was till 1918 & then again from 1924 to 1941
The LES III sight is for MkVI ammo not MkVII, the LES is for the Mk1 SMLE (MkVI) LES III the III is not marked directly after the LES & is for MkVI, the LES2 is for all SMLEs sighted for MkVII, if...
That does not really fit with examples seen, they are nearly all inventory number over 05 with a small number with the inventory number over numbers in the mid/high 20s what happened to all the 01,...
LSA didn't switch to the MkIII* until 1918 prior to that they were still producing the MkIII with the cutoff.
