agreed, jamie. those kits must be as "scarce as hens teeth". would be a nice addition to my danish M1917.....
nice to know that folks are keeping a keen eyeball out for those particular norwegian modified danish M1917s. if we had a bit more info from our norwegian members, it may help clarify why they made...
Nice find! a great looking rifle! wonderfull wood and metal work. best, john
correct, 5Mad: a "royale with cheese". now, if i can only get that catchy tune from reservoir dogs out of my head....
ah, the french metric system. i was unaware of that. do you know what they call a 1/4 pounder with cheese in france?:)
C&Rfan, i am not aware of any spl attention that was done to the danish M53/17s with the exception of the post style front sight and the possiblity that like the norwegians, the danes had a very...
C&Rfan, there are a couple of "on-going" threads on this site regarding the canadian/norwegian/danish M1917s. i am still on the learning/discovery curve. very interesting though. one of our forum...
agreed. a danish home guard front sight. some of these danish M1917s (M53/17), (from canadian lend/lease) may have been selected for accuracy and used in matches with the danish home guard. the front...
nice aquisition. your "latest" M1917? sounds like you may have more than one. nice! and they tell me that the "krag bug" bites pretty good too. :) best, john
slamfire, those of us who shoot trapdoor springfields will occassionaly use the "two target" sighting methode to establish front (or rear) sight correction at 100yds. place 2, 14x14 targets one above...
nice clean weld chuck, minimal impurities. it must have blended and machined nicely. best, john
good point, chuck. the bolt bearing surfaces do seem galled. interesting project, welding on "ears". did you have to use a rod with high nickle content for a good weld? i am thinking about 40amps...
sharp eyes chuck and jjroth. without a release agent applied at the time of original barrel installation, i wouldnt be surprised that it may take 2-3X the initial clamping torque to break the barrel...
just back from the range with the danish home guard eddystone. Boy does she shoot! factory 150gr remingtons, 5 shot, 1 7/8" group with two touching at 100yds. POI about 7" high at 100yds, prob about...
Al, i have had good luck buying rear sight parts from Numrich, aka gunpartscorp. john
Al, anything looking that nice HAS to be a sweet shooter!. john
nicely done, Al. the stock still retains its "character" even though it is now "re-preserved". best, john
5Mad: well put and a pleasure to see you back in the forums. welcome to the jungle...
beautifull rifle! a well-done classic style sporter. nice metal work and excellent figure in the stock. best, john
Al. will the scrubbing procedure raise the grain a little, and if so, the 0000 steel wool should smooth it out. your are right, every handling mark, dent and gouge adds to the character of the stock....
i tried a mauser stripper clip loaded with factory 150gr FMJ rds, in the notched eddystone. with the exception of a poor fit in the stripper clip grooves, the cartridges did not need a notched...
thanks for the procedure and what product to use, Al. in my reading i discovered that blo was the finish applied to the stock wood. as you mention, a good and thorough scrubbing will be in order....
excellent research. these forums draw on a wealth of personal experiences and knowledge. i was unaware of the possibility of a Norwegian connection. would the norwegian desire to use a mauser clip...
brought danish home guard "notched" eddystone home (M53/17). bore cleaned up well, no evidence of corrosion from excessive blank ammo firing. headspace appears good. firing pin protrusion is...
