Bullet holes in the shield? If so, it doesn't look particularly effective.
A tough looking bunch for sure but I think there is some light heartedness mixed in. The big man in the middle is doing is best impression of a "fat guy in a little coat". It sure illustrates the...
Wow! I didn't even notice the hole in his lid at first.
I think its an '03. Pretty sure I can see the front sight base ahead of the receiver.
Looks like the crouching prisoner on the left may be getting his ears boxed to help him remember something important.
They all have goggles except the 1 guy with a rifle.
I've seen this picture debated several times. Everyone agrees it is a M1903 (not 03A3). Seems to be a Weaver 330 or M73B1. Lots of guesses about the rings and mounts. Not a standard configuration.
Rifles for the next relay stacked neatly behind the group. Guy on the far right looks squared away and comfortable with the position.
Some guys just have their M1 while others are packing a lot of extra gear. The guy in front of the photographer has his full pack, a MG bipod, two ammo cans, and his rifle. Good thing he isn't in...
Listening to the MLB game and keeping score.
A real collection of hats in various states of personalization. A few helmets mixed in too. Both Garands and M1903's are visible. Even some sunglasses. Interesting group photo.
surprising amount of gas blowing back. Bolt is fully back I battery and the brass is only about 8" away from the chamber in mid air.
An earlier photo on thread https://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=64962 identified as Korea shows similar towers. In fact I think the other photo is the same area, but taken from the bottom of...
I've made similar gambles, but usually for parts I wanted for myself. I've picked up two A4 bolts on cheap sporters that were worth more than the what I paid for the rifles.
You will come out...
Betting the guys on the left enjoyed the customer service even more than the beers.
Shot the western games in 2011 and had hoped to meet him. I don't think he competed that year. Seems like a common sentiment of being a friendly, approachable, and genuine person.
There is another big honking hole in the final dive housing area. Looks like an exit hole. And yes, that looks like a glancing blow on the turret. Rough day.
Nasty business. Judging by the hole in the front of the tank, I presume its the tank crew on the ground?
Agreed. Guys in back don't seem to comprehend the situation just yet.
Germany must have had enough spare parts raining down of Allied aircraft to sustain a small air force. Surely they tested the aircraft and shared the tactical information with operational units, but...
Nov of '43 would be the correct date. The correct barrel was lost with the modification.
At a minimum, there is a mess of brass on the sidewalk that probably belonged to the guy with the MG.
I don't think you could put enough rounds and grenades through the door to make me comfortable enough to peek in like that.
Looks like a 1903 front sight base and blade to me.
