Chiming in late, but thank you for those fantastic pics, Homer!
I'll see if the bloke who rebuilt the scope from the HT that I used to own is still doing it. Think he retired.
"Haec dona, haec munera, haec sancta sacraficia illibata..."
I could be wrong; it's been almost ten years since I left the priesthood to get married, and Latin wasn't my best subject. But, off...
What a great find! Nice to learn that some HTs kept their original timber too.
Lithgow HT, nice find! Not sure about the volley sights though.
I'd be surprised if such personalisation of the stock disc would be tolerated in service.
Been fighting the black dog for a bit. Happy to be back, all good now.

That was a fun day, actually...
Yeah, at least one barreled action out back during the tour. Mind you, my fave was the ex-Gallipoli 14 Lithgow.
Not pertinent to the question, but does your rifle have blonde wood and a black Suncorite finish.on the metal?
G'day folks,
I recently acquired a Long Tom cut down to Aussie range-pattern specs, with the SMLE-length barrel. It's pretty rough and ready, but it is interesting as it is 1908-dated and made at...
Sounds like a post-service bolt and buttstock to me. Quite a few of these rifles came into Australia in (IIRC) the 70s, most of them tired and mismatched. I picked one up for $50 in the typical...
G'day folks,
I've posted this elsewhere, but I'd be interested in the thoughts of Milsurp.com members. For any Aussie Lee-Enfield collector, the club-pattern shortened MLEs are a part of our...
Any luck so far? I have a tired two-groove tube which might suit. Just came to me the other day. It has a groove around the bore about half an inch back from the muzzle. Any good for what you want?

Not exactly sure, but I think it was the acceptance stamp of the British inspector at the factory.
Cheers,
Matt
Very, very nice. I didn't realise that the ex-Italian rifles were available in Australia.
The 1914 Lithgow isn't unusual to have British service, as Australia sent many (I've read it was all but...
Lithy,
He didn't, sadly. The biggest disappointment was my camera not working when I tried to take a pic of Mr Skennerton holding the vegemite jar. I'm not sure what I did to this day...
...
Thank you gents, I appreciate the responses. I'll keep it Vegemite free!
Cheers,
Matt
G'day folks,
As an Aussie, I'm not entirely sure of the correct pronunciation of the designation of the rifle. Is M1903 pronounced as "Em nineteen oh three" or "Em nineteen aught three" or even...
Plenty of fascinating information, thanks gents.
I'll be sure to do the right thing with a new bolt.
Cheers,
Matt
Gents,
Thanks very much for your helpful information and advice. I'll start looking for a curved handle bolt. Much appreciated.
Cheers,
Matt
G'day John,
Thanks very much for your helpful and informative reply; your time is appreciated.
I have read about the problems with the "low number" rifles, and it's fascinating to learn that...
G'day folks,
I normally post on the Lee-Enfield board as that is where my collecting interest lies. My brother gave me a terrific birthday present and I'm trying to find out more about it.
It's...
Is this more recent than we'd think? Afghanistan perhaps?
Cheers,
Matt
I can't speak of 1954 rifles, but my 1953 Faz No4 Mk2 has the serial stamped on the underside of the fore-end.
Where are the stamps? I'll check mine tonight.
Cheers,
Matt
I stand corrected, and am happy to be so. My knowledge of the 7.62 variants is negligible to say the least. Thanks for the clarification.
Cheers,
Matt
