Thanks all. I appreciate the info.
Looking for a verdict on whether the SOG .22 Enfields are legit or maybe Khyber Pass repops.
Mine came in last night and I took a bunch of pictures this morning. Will probably not get around to...
I picked up a Colombian Mauser in .30-06 a couple days ago that looks to be a typical mixmaster converted FN. Mismatched straight bolt and a nice shiny bore that does not even reach the first mark on...
I just use the Garand combo tool as well.
That is kind of pretty and ugly at the same time. Weird.
Probably shined every day with boot polish.
I would not have a problem with that policy if we only had to pay the ground shipping price. Since it is their policy I do not believe we should have to pay for it.
I received a 5-digit stripped receiver through mail order from the CMP in the 17XXX range a while back. I have a parts kit and barrel along with a DuPage "seconds" stock set. All I need is for fall...
"The whole rifle appears to be varnished -- including the metal!"
Either that or the whole rifle was oiled just before the pic was taken. I was just thinking that he was lucky that thing did not...
Gas port sizes on USGI .308 Garands are quite a bit larger than for .30-06 and my .308 Garand did not run good until it had a .1065 port size.
Taken from U.S. govt M1 Garand blueprints.

If I put cosmo covered HG's in Mom's toaster oven I would be buying her a new one.
Very nice Garand there.
I just received mine today. If any of you out there are on the fence about whether to get it or not.....get it. Lots of good information for the collector in you as well as some excellent articles. I...
Dayum!
To each their own is my motto, but that is just not right.
A closer look at the left side of the stock shows the remains of a FJA stamp, no box, that is partially obscured by a gouge. No sign of a RA stamp or the ordnance wheel.
Both the bands holding...
Another pic with the stamps by the floorplate. It is very hard to tell what most of them are. From right to left we have a "A within square", a number "9X within oval"(not sure what the second digit...
"Man you got lucky. One VFW or Legion rifle that was pampered!"
I agree. Especially with the condition of the bore. Someone took very good care of this one and cleaned the bore properly. Many...
The Remington 03A3 that I ordered back in the middle of March showed up today. Serial 4167XXX with a RA flaming bomb barrel stamped 10-43. The barrel is fantastic, shiny and sharp with no pitting at...
Good to hear from you and glad to see that you are doing better.
"One less in attendance won't matter I suppose, but limiting attendance does keep riffraff from just popping in I guess"
I resemble that remark.:runaway:
I especially liked the end of the M1 Thumb article in the latest GCA journal where a whole platoon who REALLY disliked their commanding officer set their bolts hanging on the follower so that when he...
Clean the rust off as much as possible to expose how much pitting there is, then take a picture and send it to the CMP. If you ask them to have the armorer look at it and see what he says they may...
I cannot remember how far you can counterbore before you start having problems with the gas system in the Garand. Someone posted that info a long time ago so the answer will probably be forthcoming...
This was one of the $100 ones, correct?
I remember saying something about getting a receiver and a tomato stake for that $100 back when they first started advertising them. The CMP is going...
"the big issue, is that they are using recovered drill rifle receivers without telling you so.
that in itself is fruad, if at least just poor bus.
so in the worst case, they are missleading."
