A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. What is rare is that you have two people convinced that it is the last RMC handguard left on the planet. In just 9 bids, it went from $13 to over $200. Actually, it may be just one person who is convinced plus a ghost bidder driving up the cost...

Always know the value of what you are bidding on and walk away when it goes past that point....

Auctions are a poor way to buy things

People get on the excitement plan and just go way over the real value. Additionally, you are at the mercy of shills who run up the price because they know you are on the excitement plan. This what happens in the stock market. They release information, create a false sense of value and people bid it up until at some point the people inside unload it and take the money from the people on the outside. Like milking a cow, the bag fills up, you empty it. Anyone who thinks differently about the stock market is very naive.

I just knew if I hung onto these hand guards they'd be worth millions someday!

I just happened to notice these hand guards laying on my bookshelf a couple of days ago and thought this thread was funny.

I'll never understand the eBay mentality, but I have seen that happen several times.
It's as if a couple of guys are going for it trying to show each other how much they can afford to spend -
    and how stupid they are!
(Too bad it never happens when I sell something!)

I gave up on eBay a couple of years ago; both buying and selling.
