SKS bolt issue
Hello,
I recently took a look at a Yugo
SKS that I would buy to resell as that isn't my interest area, but there may be an issue with the bolt. I haven't had any experience with these, so if this question sounds basic, that it why. I've read that they have a last round hold open feature, and when I pulled the bolt back, released it, and it stopped less than halfway forward. Anyway, I got it to go forward completely by pulling the release for the magazine floorplate would you call it? It was a 10 round fixed mag, not removable. Anyway, was that the last round hold open feature or a different issue? I want to know about any potential problems before I buy it. I can get it at a good price, maybe $110, $120, and I was offered $190 for it, it's in great shape with matching stock and receiver numbers. I appreciate any input.
Thanks,
Jim

Well from the ones I own the bolt stays completely open after the last round is fired. I think "removing" the mag proves it is hanging somewhere on the mag itself.
Why use a 50 pound bomb when a 500 pound bomb will do?

OK, thanks. Any idea of how to fix that? Are the Yugo
SKS's supposed to have that release for the bottom cover of the internal mag? Because if it is something that is not original/normal that could explain this somewhat.

I own 3 Yugo
SKSs. Two 59/66s & one 59. Also 2 Romainians & a Russian
. One all the bolt remains open on the last shot, facilitating qwik reloading w/ the stripper clips. The only standard release for the magazines, is a tab, that when pulled toward the trigger gaurd releases the standard body spring & follower, dropping all catridges (except the one still in the chamber, ALWAYS INSPECT FOR THIS BEFORE BELIEVING YOUR WEAPON IS UNLOADED & NEVER TRUST THE SKS TRIGGER BLOCK/(lol) SAFETY!!! This tab can also be used to drop a "detachable magazine"(if so modified). There is no standard bolt release! If pulling this tab back slightly, releases the bolt. It is only because the magazine, follower & spring have started to fall. As previously written the condition you describe most definately indicates a problem with the magazine, possibly the bolt, maybe the receiver. Any can be checked very simply in a matter of minutes by a qualified gunsmith or experienced SKS owner, while you watch! IF THERE IS ANY OTHER DEVICE ON THE BOTTOM NEAR THE TRIGGER GAURD, IT IS DEFINATELY A MODIFICATION I AM NOT FAMILIAR WITH & WOULD LOVE TO SEE IT! In any case, a simple determination of this problem can be resolved by an individual during the cleaning process. ALTHOUGH THIS SITUATION DOES NOT SOUND DIRE..., NEVER ATTEMPT TO DISCHARGE AN SKS, UNLESS COMPLETELY FAMILIAR WITH IT & 100% OPERATIONAL SAFETY! If I am missing something, please add to this
