LongBranch 1944 Question
Hello,
I'm interesting in finding out information about the above gun which was given to my by my late grandfather. I unfortunately don't know much about guns and was interested in determining the value and hopefully selling it. I have posted a picture in the below link. Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks John

John, I don't know if you are in Canada
, but you may want to get some legal advice before posting pics of this altered Enfield around the Internet and trying to sell it. At best it's a Prohibited firearm and I have no idea whether grandfathering would even apply, depending upon your own circumstances and firearms license status.
Prohibited firearms include:
handguns with a barrel length of 105 mm (about 4.14 inches) or less and handguns that discharge .25 or .32 calibre ammunition, except for a few specific ones used in International Shooting Union competitions;
rifles and shotguns that have been altered by sawing or other means so that their barrel length is less than 457 mm (about 18 inches) or their overall length is less than 660 mm (about 26 inches);
full automatics;
converted automatics, namely full automatics that have been altered so that they fire only one projectile when the trigger is squeezed; and
firearms prohibited by Criminal Code Regulations.

I rather suspect that firearm, if registered in Canada
, would be a prohibited device. I would humbly suggest taking that rear stock off of it and altering the registration to a frame/receiver only until such time as you can examine the legality of your item.
Not sure what the legality would be in the US.
In terms of value, assuming it is located in a legal jurisdiction, not more than $100 in my opinion. Probably more like $50.

I can't see a pic...but if it has a short barrel, the thing to do is have a gunsmith with the proper action wrench and barrel vise remove the barrel, then register it as an action only.(if you're in Canada
)
Then find yourself a full length barrel and all the bits and presto, it's back as something legal and worth having.

I can't see the pic either, but if it's over 25 inches OAL, includeing the butt, is it not legal?

Only if it was made in the factory that way. If the barrel was shortened shorter than 18" (or 18 1/2"?) then it's a sawed off.
