What is interesting in that photo is that at least three of them are USAAF, two are officers with corps branch insignia visible and another has an AAF shoulder patch visible, and all are kitted up as bog standard PBI.
USAAF aerodrome engineers perhaps?

Glider pilots being returned probably. They were supposed to return to England
after their mission if possible unlike Brit glider pilots who were supposed to fight along side the troops after, Ray

That's possible, but I have to wonder why only one of them has what could be an invasion patch (American flag shoulder patch), why one of the officers has a Bino case and one of them has what appears to be wire cutters on the left side of his belt kit. Then, I see two, the bloke with the dispatch rider goggles on his helmet and the bloke to his left, who look a bit young to be glider pilots.
