Spare parts...
Ok, while my Mauser is a Yugoslav 48 and not in any concern of needing part replacement anytime soon, occurred to me that as the supply of rifles dries up the supply of quality spare parts can't be far behind. Since I'd like to be able to keep my surplus rifles running in the future I thought it might not hurt to pick up some spare parts for each rifle. So with that in mind I thought I'd ask the more experienced and knowledgeable regarding the the Mauser platform (and especially the Yugo
48),what spare parts should I pick up while I can and prices are still reasonable?

Spare parts aren't exactly something I worry about as I don't shoot very much so I guess you would have to determine if you shoot often enough to warrant the expense.
Firing pins and extractors seem to be the most common things to go wrong with any rifle but I've never heard serious issues about either with a Mauser type.
And granted, neither is going to be very expensive now so it wouldn't hurt to have them on hand. Just make sure you have a place to keep them that you will remember where they are years down the road when you might need them. That's my biggest problem of all, I have need of some parts now and I have said part but I have no idea where they are. I got them, and I put them in a good place that I would remember and that was 6 years ago and I have no idea where that good place is. I didn't move so I at least have the security I still have them, somewhere in the house.

When I find them, I'll post photos. Rather embarrassed to say what they are because they were a very nice gift from someone here who told me to use them when I had the right item to use them on. Had that item for three years now and have been searching for that nice, secure, memorable location where I stored them ever since. They will turn up eventually.
I've had the misfortune to lose an entire rifle in this house before so small parts aren't that unusual. Took me a month to find that. I am a space maximizer and creator of cubby holes. I can hide things in furniture, inside walls, floors, etc. Should probably get all that out before I lose my mind completely.

Put it this way Aragorn when you find something it is a surprise you then have to wonder what you needed it for in the first place as it was not what you were looking for anyway, you will then probably put it back and go searching for the bit you really need so being in your house would be like a giant box of chocolates..........

That's exactly how I am with my books. I'll be digging through a stack of them and find a couple that I forgot I had and it's like magic how awesome this book is. I have tried organizing them numerous times but when I'm bringing home half a dozen to a dozen a week it simply doesn't happen. I have to reorganize the entire book case which is full so something has to be moved to another book case. Sitting here in my living room without turning my head I can see three full boxes of books, one bag full of books and five stacks of books that haven't even been moved upstairs to where the main libraries are. I have gotten better with parts since I acquired that blue print storage cabinet. Everything small goes into the top drawer of that. I also have a nice metal blue case with compartments I put small parts in. That's kind of the key with parts. Has to be something large, that can't be easily hidden away or something stationary that won't be moved.
