carbine cartridge box
Years ago, someone had found these photos and sent them to me, as I am not really a carbine collector but more of a cartridge collector, I saved these photos.
These photos are of a cardboard box manufactured for military 30 M1
carbine cartridges. the box holds thirty cartridges from the appearance of the photos.
Anyone have additional information on this early box ?Attachment 89384Attachment 89385

Interesting! I don't remember seeing anything like this - need to check out War Baby to see if I may have overlooked it, though. Apparently made early by Remington. I wonder if there are (3) rows of 15 cartridges? I see a "45" on the label, but can't make out much else - wonder if it was repackaged by one of our allies sometime during the war - possibly the French
? - Bob

Bob may be right. For some reason it looks French
to me. Maybe a re-pack in a handy 30 round size to charge two 15s. Doesn't look like USGI packaging. Europeans did not do as much of the 50 round box stuff we did.

Can you post a clear close-up of just the label? One line does appear to be in French
, but I can't be sure.

I think the line you're referring to that looks like "jet de me" is actually a portion of the phrase "disposal of empty cartridge cases MUST BE MADE as prescribed by A.R." This statement is seen on US ammo boxes of the era and in that location.
Just blurriness and wear makes it look all Frenchy.

So are you saying that label would have been on commercial US ammo boxes of the era or military? I haven't seen that before on the carbine ammo boxes that I have. Would A.R. mean Army Regulations? Thanks! - Bob

Military ammo boxes. See here for an example:

I assume that A.R. does mean army regulations.
Anyway, you do make a great point - I don’t think I’ve ever seen a carbine ammo box with this label format either. I would definitely say that is this US military format though.

I had a box of 30-06 Tracers that looked similar, come to think of it. Thanks for that information. So much for the French
"connection!"
