10 Sept 20 Garand Picture of the Day

A Marine Corps war dog rests in the shade of a camouflaged shelter-half hung over a barbed wire entanglement after a hard tour of front line duty at Guam. Marines' steel helmets have been put to many uses but here it makes its bow as a water dish for Laddie. The dog, a Doberman-Pinscher owned by W.A. Schaefer of Greenock, Pennsylvania, is used to locate snipers and to carry messages between scouts and the command post.

I was friends with a dentist that was Iwo Jima towards the end, he shipped back an M1
rifle. When he retired he sold this rifle to a local
gun shop, I tried to buy it, no luck, but they gave me the sling.

That would have been frustrating...
