check the internet for detailed instructions, as come off really easy while others are most difficult ! there was a special tool in ordnance for this job.

The procedure is as follows.
(1) Turn the windage knob counterclockwise, thereby rotating the rear sight counterclockwise, until the rear sight is fully disengaged from the windage threads and stops rotating.
(2) Turn the rear sight further counterclockwise by hand until it is fully disengaged at the front and can be lifted from the base. Then lift the rear sight from the base.
(3) The windage knob has a spring behind the knob that pushes the knob to the right. Fully depress the knob against the spring tension, then counterclockwise rotate the windage knob and shaft out from under the overhang. This may be a little tricky and may require a little pushing force while rotating the knob, especially against the knob and against the opposite end of the shaft.
(4) Install the new knob following these instructions in reverse.
Good Luck!

Use of a good lubricant is also recommended. Plus don't make the knob/threads so all the work if you have a tight assembly and want it to stay tight. That is, use some sideways thump pressure on the base as you turn the knob.
When reassembling, consider a good grease on the pivot and the screw threads.
