No.4 MK1* Savage 1944
Hello,
i have a question about the metalfinish on Savage LE`s.
Were they all parkerized or was there a change in finishing the metalparts?
And wich kind of parkerizing did they use, manganium or what?
Many thanks for your answers.
Regards
Gunner

If your Savage bares FTR markings it is safe to say it went in for repairs and received Suncorite for its coating, i know in 1944 they switched over to Suncorite on the rifles, the Sten Gun was the first to receive it factory fresh is what im finding but as to the original treatment I'm hoping someone can help us both out with this. My Savage appears to have been taken care of meticulously and wears no FTR markings but has some fading to the metal finishing, on the receiver and trigger guard so I think we're in the same boat, I would hate to have a nice finish and it be half accurate.

All the Savages w/ original finish that I've seen were phosphated with a fairly coarse texture. Colour is about medium gray usually w/ a green tint from the soaked in oils.
