Enfield buttplate questions
Two questions for those who know.
1) Would a 1944 British
No 4 Mk I T BSA sniper rifle have a Zanac buttplate or a brass one?
2) Would the Zanac buttplate on a 41 Long Branch be LB marked or no?

1-maybe, sometimes
2- NO
In the real world.....
HOWEVER .... you are dealing with Lee Enfields and most, if not all, have had some degree of refurbishment

In general (despite rare exceptions):
1) No, it would have left the factory with a gunmetal (looks like brass) buttplate.
2) Not necessarily. Most were, but Longbranch also sometimes used Ilco marked ones supplied by that subcontractor, which is normally most associated with Savage. It's also possible that the very earliest LB pattern Mk1(no *) rifles in 1941 had brass buttplates before quickly switching to zamac
, but I've never seen one in person.
3) It's Zamac, not Zanac.

Zamac it is and thanks. I've bought this C Broad Arrow marked plate from a member for my 41 to replace the rather beat up one that was on it.
